In the Bible there is a family of words that reflects a very explicit action of Almighty God. These words are "creator," "created," "creature," "creation." These terms, in wonderful harmony, loudly herald the reality that neither our universe nor the human family are accidental phenomena. And yet that is precisely the conclusion the secular world would have humanity accept. Presumably, all of us are but bizarre, inexplicable "freaks" of mindless nature (cf. Rom. 1:25).
The Doctrine of Creation
Repeatedly, however, from the first book of the Bible (Gen. 1:1) to the concluding document of the New Testament (cf. Rev. 3:14), the doctrine of creationism is heralded.
Any attempt to nullify this truth by some fictitious naturalistic explanation is a form of infidelity of the worst magnitude. Compromises are equally satanic.
The creation of the inanimate universe, along with its living creatures, was the act of our omnipotent God. Ten times in Genesis 1 Moses records the phrase, "and God said," reflecting the reality that the origin of the various components of the creation were solely by divine power.
This concept is unique to biblical theology. The power of creation establishes Jehovah's authoritative right over His creatures (Ps. 24:1-2).
The doctrine of fiat creation is affirmed in both testaments of the Bible (Gen. 1:1-2:25; Ps. 33:9; John 1:1-3; Rom. 1:20; Heb. 11:3). The Biblical doctrine of creation is foundational to the balance of the Scriptures.
The creation account and the immediate events that followed are the foundation for the following significant truths.
Implications of Creation
There is dignity in humanity. We are made in the image of God. How wicked it is to repudiate God as our Maker and contend that our origin was some slime pit of antiquity.
The transfer of man's responsibility away from his Creator to his own autonomous power is the epitome of arrogance and ingratitude. The "clay" has no right over the "potter" (cf. Rom. 9:21); man is required to obey his Maker.
The foundation of the home, with its exclusive male/female relationship, along with the monogamous union, is based in creation history (Mark 10:6ff).
The origin and consequences of human sin (e.g., sickness and death) is grounded in the creation account.
The first glimpse of Heaven's plan of redemption through the role of Christ is previewed in Genesis 3:15.
The theory of evolution, concocted by rebelliously wicked men who desired to be free of divine restraint, is false. Its persistent challenge, "Trash this ‘God' idea!" is deadly. Darwinism is a baseless ideology supported neither by Scripture nor science. (For more on this topic, see "Why People Believe in Evolution" at ChristianCourier.com.)
In the margin of Genesis 1:1, write: "Our Creator is not far. See Acts 17:22-31."
